PAM AYRES has recently completed a Spring Series of 25 concerts in the UK, which were all sold out. One of the concerts, on Mother’s Day 2nd March, was broadcast live via satellite to 16 cinemas in the Picturehouse Cinema chain throughout the UK. In April Pam visited Cyprus for the first time to perform a concert in the Akamas International Centre in Paphos
Pam has another 20 concerts scheduled for later this year.
The last two years have seen Pam busy with book publications. Pam’s latest book, SURGICALLY ENHANCED (Hodder & Stoughton), was published in hardback in 2006 and in paperback in 2007. February this year saw the republishing of a new hardback edition of Pam’s book, WITH THESE HANDS, published by Orion Books, who published the original version over ten years ago. Both SURGICALLY ENHANCED and WITH THESE HANDS have been in the Sunday Times bestseller lists, which mirror Pam’s achievement of over thirty years ago when her first books also appeared in the Sunday Times bestseller lists.
September 2008 will also see the republishing of another of Pam’s books, THE WORKS, which was first published in 1992, and has been in print ever since. This new edition, published by BBC Books, will be in hardback, as the original edition was only ever issued in paperback.
Recent CD and DVD releases have included Pam’s latest DVD, PAM AYRES UNSUPPORTED (Warner Music Entertainment), which was recorded last June at Cleo Laine & John Dankworth’s theatre, The Stables at Wavendon. Audio CD releases have included PAM AYRES ANCIENT & MODERN (Hodder Audiobooks), and AYRES ON THE AIR 2 (BBC Audiobooks), the second series of Pam’s BBC Radio 4 comedy series.
On radio, March 2008 saw the broadcast of a new 6-part radio sitcom series for BBC Radio 4, called POTTING ON, in which Pam co-starred with actor Geoffrey Whitehead. 2009 will see Pam recording her third series of AYRES ON THE AIR for BBC Radio 4.
Three years ago, in 2005, saw Pam celebrate her 30th Anniversary as an entertainer, as it was November 1975 when Pam made the first of her appearances on the ITV talent show, Opportunity Knocks. Highlights of her career include an evening in October 1996, when Pam was the sole entertainer at a Royal Gala Charity Reception at St. James’ Palace, attended by HM The Queen. Pam entertained The Queen again, in the somewhat less august premises of the Sandringham Village Hall W.I. in January 2004. Subsequently, Pam was thrilled to be awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2004.
